Get Out: A Horror Film Everyone Should See

When I first saw the trailer for Get Out, I immediately knew that I wanted to see it. Not only did it look scary, but there was a black person playing the lead role–of a horror film! Later on, I discovered that Jordan Peele, who is best known for the hit Comedy Central show “Key and Peele,” created and directed the movie. As a big fan of the show, I knew I definitely had to see the movie now.

At the beginning of the movie, Peele didn’t waste any time bringing the “horror” on. Peele also made it a point to shed light on the thoughts that run through a black person’s mind when placed in certain situations. Later in the movie, the protagonist Chris, ends up having to attend a party with all white people. While trying to mingle, and support his girlfriend Rose, Chris finds himself caught in several awkward conversations relating to his race. This scene is golden, because it incorporates prejudice, white privilege, power, ignorance, cultural appropriation, and assimilation– simultaneously. Peele did an excellent job capturing the many uncomfortable moments that black people often experience.

This movie will have you in suspense the entire time. It will also have you screaming at the screen; be prepared to jump as well. Get your friends together and make plans to watch the movie asap! You won’t regret it. If you haven’t seen it, check out the trailer below. Also, check out Jordan Peele’s interview with Big Boy. He is awesome!
