5 Fun Things to Do in DC This Week

Written By Dana James | @Franky1

Memorial Day is rapidly approaching and many of us are on the hunt for fun activities in The District. Well, lucky for you, I have the inside scoop on what’s to come this week.

Ireland 100 Whiskey Tasting

The Ireland 100 event is one of various events taking place at the Kennedy Center. They will have a Whiskey tasting on Thursday with U.S. Ambassador Tim Herlihy. For those who aren’t familiar, Tim was announced in 2015 as Whiskey Magazine’s Icons of Whiskey: Best Irish Whiskey Ambassador. Sounds like an event you wouldn’t want to miss!

This event is $49 and is limited to 70 people

Jazz in the Garden

Jazz in the Garden takes place at the Sculpture Garden. Scheduled to start on Friday if the weather permits. This is one of my favorite things to do once the Spring weather hits. It’s free live Jazz, unless you partake in the available wine, and you can bring your own food in which is a plus. Remember to bring a blanket, get there early, and enjoy the ambiance.

Washington Nationals Baseball

The Nationals play on the Saturday, May 28th against the Cardinals. They will have a special ticket event and Taste of the World, where you will be able to sample food from all over the globe. I think this is a great addition to the usual baseball game. Baseball games are already lots of fun, but once you add in food, it seals the deal.

DC Capital Fair

The fair will start on Friday at 5pm and will run until June 5th. Who remembers the last time they went to a fair? DC Capital Fair includes rides, games, live entertainment, and The Great American Wolf Show. Of course they’ll have funnel cakes, candy apples, cotton candy, pizza, and more.

The hours may vary

Location: RFK Stadium

The “Golden Cinema” Outdoor Film Series

This outdoor film series continues with Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) on Friday. If you’re into old films, this could be something entertaining for you, and it’s free. This takes place every Friday until July 22nd, but why not start your Memorial Day weekend at the movies?

This event takes place at Farragut Square Park which is located at the intersection of 17th St near Connecticut Ave, I St and K St NW.
