While go-go may come to mind when people mention bands in the DMV, The Fix serves as a pleasant surprise. The band, which is composed of six young men, Drew, Frank, Keith, Silk, Smiles, and Steve, supply melodic, up-beat and sultry sounds to crowds of all ages. This is a band that does not stick to one genre, and they play NO go-go.
A little less than two years ago The Fix was put together by Silk, the drummer. They were a group of established musicians, who had been in the industry for over 10 years, and coming together was nothing less than genius. Steve the second lead singer made it a point to recognize their respect for their craft and love for music: “To be a musician…and show your musicianship is an honor and a privilege.”
Keyboard player and background singer Smiles describes the band’s sound as musically satisfied. Why, you ask? “Because that’s how you feel when you hear us.” (Inserts poetic snaps.) If you’re wondering whether it’s safe to call The Fix a cover band, it certainly is. From old school and new school R&B to Hip Hop, The Fix plays it all. Their slogan, “Come get your fix,” fits like a glove and suggests once you get a taste, you’ll be back for more.
While this group can be heard playing your favorite songs, they’re also on the road to their own project. The Fix recently dropped their first single, “Famous,” and it is available on now iTunes. The band’s goal is to bring real music back, and to take the unique D.C. sound out of D.C. and into the world. The Fix is well on their way.
